Castries Airport Reviews

Castries Airport also known as George F. L. Charles Airport (formerly Vigie Airport) (IATA: SLU, ICAO: TLPC) is the smaller of two airports in Saint Lucia, the other being Hewanorra International Airport.

Castries Airport is located 2 km (1.2 mi) north of Castries, the capital city. George F. L. Charles Airport is managed by the Saint Lucia Air and Seaports Authority (SLASPA). Its runway runs parallel to a pristine beach, Vigie Beach, which is a popular tourist attraction. Castries George F. L. Charles Airport was renamed on 4 August 1997 in honor of Saint Lucia politician Sir George Frederick Lawrence Charles (1916–2004). Also, the airport only offers an NDB approach to runway 9 however, approaches to runway 27 is rarely seen and must be done by a visual traffic pattern. Approaches to runway 27 are difficult due to rising terrain, wind patterns and the fact that there is a school and a heavily populated area in the flight path therefore, pilots must have a last minute, steep nose down attitude before landing.

The Castries Airport houses the George Charles Outstation of the Eastern Caribbean Civil Aviation Authority and, has General Aviation Services located at the right of runway 9.
