Luang Prabang Airport Reviews

Luang Prabang International Airport (Lao: ສະຫນາມບິນສາກົນຫຼວງພະບາງ), (IATA: LPQ, ICAO: VLLB) is one of the few international airports in Laos.

The airport is located in Luang Prabang. Luang Prabang, or Louangphrabang, is a city located in north central Laos, at the confluence of the Nam Khan river and Mekong River about 300 km north of Vientiane. It is the capital of Luang Prabang Province. The population of the city is about 50,000. Until February 2011 it was considered a risky place to land due to the mountainous terrain surrounding the airport, but since then it has been modernized, making the airport significantly safer. The Luang Prabang Airport airlines and destinations are Bangkok Airways – Bangkok-Suvarnabhumi, Lao Airlines – Vientiane, Ban Hat Tai, Pakse, Lao Airlines – Bangkok-Suvarnabhumi, Chiang Mai, Hanoi, Jinghong, Siem Reap, Lao Central Airlines – Vientiane, Thai Smile – Bangkok-Suvarnabhumi, and Vietnam Airlines – Hanoi, Siem Reap.

In 2011, Luang Prabang Airport extension of the airport runway will start. After planned completion in 2013 the airport will be capable of accommodating all large-sized aircraft except the Airbus A380.
