Denver International Airport (IATA: DEN, ICAO: KDEN, FAA LID: DEN), often referred to as DIA, is an airport in Denver, Colorado. At 140 square kilometers (35,000 acres) it is the largest airport in the United States by total area. Runway 16R/34L is the longest public use runway in the United States. In 2012 Denver International Airport was the 15th-busiest airport in the world by passenger traffic with 53,156,278 passengers.

It is considered that, Denver Airport was the fifth-busiest airport in the world by aircraft movements with over 635,000 movements in 2010. The airport is in northeastern Denver and is operated by the City & County of Denver Department of Aviation. DIA was voted Best Airport in North America by readers of Business Traveler Magazine six years in a row (2005–2010) and was named “America’s Best Run Airport” by Time Magazine in 2002.

The Denver International Airport is the main hub for low-cost carrier Frontier Airlines and commuter carrier Great Lakes Airlines. It is also the fourth-largest hub for United Airlines. The Denver Airport is a focus city for Southwest Airlines. Since commencing service to Denver in January 2006, Southwest has added over 50 destinations, making Denver its fastest-growing market.

Denver International Airport is the only airport in the United States to have implemented an ISO 14001-certified environmental management system covering the entire airport.

Airport Scavenger Hunt: It always nice to discover an airport that has created fun activities to keep travelers occupied. DIA has a Scavenger Hunt for each of its terimals. From looking for gargoyles to counting how many shops sell coffee at the C Gates, you may have some fun.
Art at DIA: There are a number or exhibitions and sculptures throughout the airport.
ATMs / Cash Machines – Yes – Cash machines can be found throughout the airport (landside and airside).
Battery Charging Stations – There are free battery charging stations located at the A, B and C Gates, Concourse Level. Hours: available 24 hours.
Business Center – Offers internet, phone & fax machines. Location: B Gates on Mezzanine Level
Car Rentals – Advantage • Alamo • Avis • Budget • Dollar • E-Z • Enterprise • Hertz • National • Payless • Thrifty. Location: Courtesy shuttles depart from Jeppesen Terminal, Level 5, Island 4.
Cots – In the event of bad weather or delays, this airport has a supply of cots for stranded travelers. A site visitor shared this tip: “In the business center in the middle of the “B” Terminal (not sure of other terminals), there’s a cot located in the far cubical which is the widest cubical. Saw it earlier and now someone is using it to sleep.

Food / Dining – There are many food and beverage concessions at the Denver Airport, but only a few of them are open 24 hours. They are the following:

Prayer Rooms – An Interfaith Chapel and Islamic Prayer Hall is located in the Jeppesen Terminal (level 6). Hours: open 24 hours

Smoking – Smoking is not permitted except in these designated areas: Aviator’s Club Smoking Lounge (Jeppesen Terminal, Level 6, West Side) • Mesa Verde Smoking Lounge (A Gates, Mezzannine Level) • Aviator’s Club Smoking Lounge (B Gates, Mezzannine Level, Center Core) • Smokin’ Bear Lodge (C Gates, Center Core).
Video Games – Comfortable booths where users can play the games on their own or against others online. Location: ZooX Public Internet Kiosk Systems, Jeppesen Terminal, A, B and C Gates. Rate: 15 cents per minute at a $3.00 minimum.
Internet – Free WiFi is available at the Denver Airport in the Jeppesen Terminal (Gates A, B, C). Connect to the “DIAFREEWIFI” network.
